Heritage Life Personal Care Home History

HLPCH had its official grand opening on August 20, 2013 with residents beginning to move in on October 1, 2013
Heritage Life Personal Care Home has a rich and storied history and can trace it roots back to the late 1700’s to an encounter between a beggar and a priest. Imagine the scene right out of Les Miserable! This encounter led to the birth of Filles de la Croix (Sisters of the Cross) order of nuns. Their worldwide impact began to expand where in 1906 Filles de la Croix had the vision to build a convent in the tiny prairie community of St. Adolphe, Manitoba that would faithfully serve the community and area for over 100 years.

There is a wonderful story of a miraculous healing that took place at the convent in the 1920’s. The Miracle Story is commemorated in a special place at Heritage Life Personal Care Home.
Filles de la Croix continues to have a world-wide impact focusing their work on helping the poor.
In 1972 Filles de la Croix sold the building and property to a family who converted the convent into a nursing home.
In 2009, Niverville Heritage Holdings Inc. purchased the St. Adolphe Nursing Home and while continuing to operate the nursing home, also began efforts to build a new personal care home that would be eventually become Heritage Life Personal Care Home in Niverville.

The St. Adolphe Nursing Home building was built in 1906 and was in obvious need of replacement, however, could not be replaced in its existing location due to it being located within the Red River flood plain. The facility had been evacuated a number of times over the years and most recently in 2009 and 2011 after ownership had already transitioned to NHHI. If not for late favourable weather conditions in Spring of 2013, it would have had to evacuate all of its residents for the 3rd time in 5 years. We have learned through experience that evacuations are very hard on residents, especially those with dementia.

In June of 2011 on a beautiful summer day, local MLA Ron Lemieux made the announcement to a gathering of about 100 people at the St. Adolphe Nursing Home that NHHI had received permission to rebuild the personal care home in Niverville on the Niverville Heritage Centre campus. Further, the personal care home would increase in size to 80 residents that it would include a 20 resident Special Care Environment. It was indeed a wonderful and exciting day!

Official sod turning for Heritage Life Personal Care Home took place on November 5th 2011 in front of a large group of community members and stakeholders just prior to the 2013 Niverville Heritage Centre Fundraising Gala.
Heritage Life Personal Care Home had its official ribbon cutting on August 20, 2013.
